Responsive Website Steams Ahead For Midland Railway

Major tourist attraction, Midland Railway – Butterley (MR-B), awarded its contract to build a new responsive website to Nottinghamshire brand and interactive agency, Bazzoo.

MR-B is much more than a restored railway, it provides a day out for the whole family with model and miniature railways, play area, picnic areas, cafes and a country park as well as heritage steam and diesel locomotives operating and a host of other attractions.

Special attractions include Thomas the Tank Engine, a vintage steam engines, diesel engines and other railway related items from yesteryear.

Visitors can take a nostalgic trip on one of their heritage trains, immerse themselves in heritage railway culture, explore the museums at Swanwick Junction, take a walk in the country park or enjoy one of the regular special attractions, i.e. Santa Claus Express.

Every visit is different, with some attractions open on certain days and locomotives and rolling stock being moved.

Screen Shot 2017-01-27 at 13.40.14The web brief was to bring to life the essence and culture of the attraction to new and existing visitors through a new mobile friendly website.  Careful thought was given to the structure and navigation of the site to enable visitors understand the full range of attractions and facilities available.

Quick links enable seamless links to many of the services on offer including; planning your visit, eat drink & shop, footplate experience, guided tours, weddings and school visits.

An online calendar lists the trains available each day and customers can click through and purchase a ticket for one of the daily trains. A ticker tape provides up-to-date information 24/7.

A video also produced by Bazzoo gives viewers a birds eye view of the site and a taster of many of the exciting and unique attractions.

A full suite of analytics tools have been built into the site which incorporates the latest Google SEO techniques.

Social media and email marketing have also been implemented as part of the interactive strategy developed by Bazzoo for the Midland Railway Trust.

Bazzoo Shortlisted In 3 Way Pitch for Hitachi International JV

Bazzoo have pitched for an international brand assignment against agencies in Japan and  the USA. The brand activation brief, for a JV between Hitachi and Johnson Controls is to be rolled out in Europe, Asia and North America.

Our  extensive experience of developing brands and creating engaging systems and manuals for brand management roll-out, both in the UK and worldwide was the  key reason we were invited to pitch.   As interactive developers we work in both film and animation, and firmly believe that these mediums are a highly effective route to cascading brand guidelines for use across a multitude of platforms.

Bazzoo have successfully brought brand definitions to life and launched simple to use interactive guidelines for complex portfolios of products used by a broad range of stakeholders including partnership branding.

As part of the pitch Hitachi/Johnson Controls pitch, Creative Director, James Fountain and his brand team devised an international strategy to:

  1. Increase brand awareness and understanding
  2. Identify a compelling and relevant brand colour palette
  3. Create brand concepts which could be adapted across media channels (print, digital, mobile, video, etc.) and across geographic markets
  4. Produce scamps for a story board for a brand manifesto VIDEO

The  review team, described Bazzoo submission as “very impressive , well thought through with excellent creativity”.

Bazzoo have over 20 years substansive experience working within the HVAC sector and this was a further significant factor in the selection process.


Previously Bazzoo developed brand interpretation guidelines together with advertising, display and web materials for the UK based Hoval based company, Koolfuel,  and the Centre for Renewable Energy. Bazzoo also have substansive experience in FMCG, AgriBusiness and Retail.


Fry Group Monster Corkscrew Promoted By Bazzoo

Bazzoo Promote Monster Corkscrew


The worlds most complex and exclusive corkscrew was launched by Bazzoo for clients One of One Ltd, five years ago in Monaco. Designed by Rob Higgs, maker of fine contraptions, the prototype The Corkscrew will come under the hammer at Christies ‘Out of the Ordinary sale’ in mid September.

Out of the Ordinary commemorates 250 years of Christie’s and, as the name suggests, is a celebration of the unusual, the unique, the extraordinary and the exceptional.

James Fountain, founder of Bazzoo said, “ ‘The Corkscrew’ is an ingenious mechanical sculpture comprising almost 300 ‘found’ objects which have been cast in bronze and assembled to create a priceless object trouvés. It is not just an amazing sculpture, but is quite simply a work of pure, mechanical genius”.

The Corkscrew has appeared on the One Show with Chris Evans, Gadget Man with Stephen Fry and was much admired by Bono at the launch party in Monaco.

Stephen Fry described the Corkscrew as ‘British eccentricity at its best’.  The film below demonstrates it in action with various celebrities.

Cast in bronze, The Corkscrew sits on a wooden cabinet, and is best described as a hand cranked, gravity assisted cork remover and wine pouring contraption.

Limited editions of The Corkscrew have been sold to clients across the world and it has been widely exhibited.

It appeared at the now famous bi-annual sculpture exhibition at Doddington Hall, near Lincoln, which is currently running a show including work from national and international sculptors.

One of One promotes a number of leading Sculptors and offers and interesting range of unusual limited addition artworks.

Bazzoo specialises in the art market and has worked on promoting a broad range of exhibitions including events at Coughton Court, The Friary, Marks Hall, Newark Museum, National Civil War Centre and Doddington Hall.
